British and European law insists that all motor vehicles have their speedometers calibrated before they can be used on public roads. Limited production, self-build and kit cars must now pass the IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) test which includes testing the accuracy of the vehicle’s speedometer.
If you modify or change your car’s gear box, road wheels, tyre size, speed sender, or the gauge itself, then you will need to have a new calibration carried out and a new certificate of calibration issued. We offer these calibration and certification services.
Electrical speedos are matched to a sender and once installed should read within the required limits. If you already have the sender we will need details of it, otherwise we can supply the correct sender with your gauge.
Mechanical speedos on the other hand use a rotary cable and the number of revolutions of the cable over a given distance travelled on the road needs to be checked so that we can match your gauge to your particular vehicle. When we repair a gauge we strip it down and completely overhaul it to ensure that it is mechanically and electrically functional. If required we can also supply and fit a new glass, bezel, pointer and dial face and make it look as new.
